Differential Gear and Propeller Shaft In front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicles, engine power is transmitted to the rear differential via the propeller shaft. The center bearing used to support the propeller shaft is located outside the vehicle, which not only maintains high rotational speeds but also increases the demand for optimal resistance to mud and muddy water. Due to the large reduction ratio of the rear differential gear, which transfers engine power to the rear wheels, the bearing supporting the pinion gear and ring gear is subjected to a significant gear-meshing load.
